And now I’m moving on. No turning back and no second thoughts. I’m going to live my life and let you live yours—separately. Oh, and you know what? Everything’s going to be perfectly fine.
- David: We're driving somewhere.
- Me: In a car. A spiritual car.
- David: Of faith.
- Me: A spiritual car of faith.
- David: What kind of car? I think we should go with a Celica. A spiritual Celica of faith.
- Me: No, a spiritual Lamborghini of faith.
I’ve heard over and over again that the whole point of dating or courtship is to find that special someone to spend the rest of your life with. I’m not ready to make that kind of commitment right now—not even close. I feel like there’s still so much time to grow. There’s time to grow in faith, in emotional security, in spiritual maturity, and as a pastor, protector and provider. At the same time, I think that my future wife needs time to grow and mature as well. We’re not going to be the same people in five, ten, fifteen years. There’s so much time to change that I don’t want to make that commitment right now.
Right now, my commitment is to be the best version of myself. And I hope that she’s dedicating her life to becoming the best version of herself. That way, when we finally stand on the altar and say our vows, we can be the best version of ourselves. And nothing less.
You can’t just be a Catholic when it’s easy. You can’t just show your faith when it’s convenient. Being a Catholic means allowing God to work in all areas of your life—at all times. Because sometimes it’s more important to have faith when everything is going wrong than when everything is going right.
Note to self.
I love her. One of the things I’ll miss the most when she’s gone is her smile and how she would let me help out in the kitchen. Currently making some fried bananas(:
Note to self.
Sometimes, if you lie to yourself and say that everything is going to be alright, that lie becomes your reality and everything is suddenly alright.
But in a relationship, I will be 100% devoted to you. You, and only you. Don’t expect me to flirt with other people because I won’t. I’ll love you for all your mistakes and imperfections. I’ll love you through all your problems and mood swings. Cause if I can trust you with my heart, you can trust me with yours.
